Homemade Sausage, Onion & Mushroom Pizza

3 -4 ounce sweet Italian sausage links
1 cup thinly sliced red onion
3/4 cup thinly sliced red or yellow bell pepper
1 -8 ounce package button mushrooms, sliced or a blend of shiitake, cremini and oyster types
3 cloves of garlic, minced
Dough for 2 -12 inch pizzas
1 cup of your favorite pasta sauce
1 1/2 cups shredded part-skim mozzarella cheese
1/4 cup thinly sliced fresh basil

Preheat oven to 450°. Remove casing from sausage. Cook sausage in a large nonstick skillet over medium-high heat until browned, stirring to crumble. Add onion, pepper, and mushrooms to pan and sauté 8 minutes or until tender. Stir in garlic stirring for 1 minute. Form dough on 2 pizza stones, pans or baking sheets. I like to sprinkle cornmeal in the pans before placing the dough. Brush edges with olive oil. Spread pasta sauce evenly over crust, leaving a 1/4-inch border. Top evenly with mushroom mixture. Sprinkle evenly with cheese. Bake at 450° until edges are golden brown. Remove from oven; sprinkle evenly with basil. Cut each pizza into 8 wedges.
